Scarlett Shelf is a reading companion from Valet de Bâtons. It brings an illustrated interface to a Google Sheets-backed collection, so you can organise books and record the details that make them yours.
- Library: save books, editions, covers, blurbs, statuses, ratings and selected tags.
- Reader’s Folio: record progress, notes, characters and associated volumes.
- Goals and statistics: explore your saved reading records and work towards goals.
- Wishlist and tracking: keep future purchases and author or series collections together.
- Love Ladder, Spells and Print Studio: organise rated favourites, saved lists and printable layouts.
- Kobo import: import supported records and available metadata from files you select, using a compatible desktop browser.
Why it connects to Google
The Google edition runs through Google Apps Script under the account you authorise. It creates a reading workbook and an app-files folder in that account, then reads and updates those resources as you use the app. Your account email is used to identify your workspace and, during testing, check access.
Google’s current permission request includes spreadsheet access and access to Drive files created or used by the app. The spreadsheet permission is broader than a single workbook, even though the current app is designed to use its linked workbook. The permission request should be read alongside our privacy policy.
The app does not request Gmail, Google Contacts or Google Calendar permissions in the current build. Its reading calendar is an app feature, not a connection to your Google Calendar.

Your sheet is yours. The interface is separate.
Your workbook stores the reading records. Uploaded pictures and certain backups use the app’s Drive folder. Google Apps Script also holds account bindings and optional app-password/session information. This public-facing website does not display or connect to your reading workbook.
Scarlett Shelf is not an e-book shop, a source of book downloads, or an official Google, Kobo or Kindle product.
Book details are a starting point
When enabled, book and author searches can use Open Library and Wikidata. Their information may be incomplete, describe another edition, or omit a series link. Review important details and correct them in the app. A Kobo reading percentage does not guarantee that the EPUB contains a usable total page count.
Before you begin
- Use the Google account where you want to keep the library and review the consent screen.
- Use a supported desktop browser for connected-device imports. Mobile device access is not promised.
- Keep your own backups. Data export and restore have limits, especially for images.
- Use only files, pictures and content you have the right to import.
